Congratulations Envirothon
Congratulations to both Envirothon teams for a great job at the competition yesterday.  Team “This is over-elm-ing”, made up of Courtney Spiker, Morgan Edwards, Ian Zheng, and Eleanor Browne, earned second place in every event and second place overall.  Team “Mountain Ridge”, made up of Hannah Yazdani, Morgan Kenney, Alex Mcnemar, and Kendra Hapold earned first place in quatics and wildlife and fourth place overall.

Boys' Track Team Victory
Congratulations to the Boys’ Track Team for their 3rd place finish in the Western Maryland Invitational. Noah Snyder won the discus. Noah DeMichelle won the shot put. Kaden McElheuny finished 1st in the high jump. Ryan Copeland won the pole vault. Bryce Miller won the 200 meter dash and the 4x200 meter relay finished first. The team will compete at the Apple Blossom Invitational on Saturday.

Girls' Track Team Victory
The Girls’ Track + Field Team placed 1st in the Western Maryland Invitational at Fort Hill last night Tuesday, April 27. Event winners were: 4x800 relay Hannah Krumpach, Katie Miller, Grace Trenum and Kate Baker, 100 meter hurdles Maddie Stewart, 4x200 relay Alexa Sowers, Abby Rose, Madison Reed, and Sami Jo Kight, 400 meter Trinity Washington, 4x100 relay Trininty Washington, Alexa Somers, Gabby White, and Sami Jo Kight, 4x400 relay Sarah Rafferty, Hannah Muir, Abby Rose, and Trinity Washington, Shot put and discus Alexa Arnold. Great Job Girls’.

Attention Spanish Club Participants
Mrs. Desiree Witt will be here on Friday, May 5th during period 1 to instruct us in Latin dancing—salsa, tango, meringue, and more.  See Miss. Malec in room 157 this Thursday, April 27 to sign up and join in on the fun.

Seniors please turn in pictures for senior slide show. You have until Monday, May 15. Please turn in ASAP. You can turn in 4 pictures with one being your senior picture.

Student Council Fundraiser
The Student Council is having a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House charities.  Donations Include:

  • Sponges
  • Dish-washing Liquid
  • Dishwasher detergent

Prom Ticket Sale
Prom Ticket Sales will start tomorrow, April 11th. Tickets will be on sale in the main office before and after school and during 5th period only! All guest forms must be completed before a ticket will be sold! Tickets are $12.00 each. The final day to buy tickets is May 3rd.

Scholarships Updated March 31, 2017

Attention Seniors
There are probably many of you out there that have participated in service activities since middle school that you could turn in for service learning recognition.  Maybe you helped carol with your church at Christmastime or put together food baskets at Thanksgiving or volunteered to help at your little brother or sister’s school fair.  Maybe you walked or raced for a charity or volunteered through boy scouts, girl scouts, or 4-H.  Maybe you are junior firefighter.
If you are one of those people who say, “Yeah, I did do that activity,” then you need to get some forms from Mrs. Goodwin in Room 312 and get those hours submitted as soon as possible. LISTEN UP SENIORS!! The final deadline has been set by the Board of Education. The final deadline to turn in any service hours is now Friday, May 5th.

Moran Scholarship and Dick Ryan Community Trust Scholarship
The MORAN SCHOLARSHIP and the DICK RYAN COMMUNITY TRUST SCHOLARSHIPS are now available in the Guidance office. The scholarship award winners will be announced at the Graduation ceremony on May 30. Deadline for these scholarships to be returned to Mrs. Blank is May 1st.

Senior Speaker
Are you ready to think about Graduation?  Well, the time has come to determine the student speaker! Interested?  Seniors must submit written speeches to Dr. Marchbank no later than Wednesday, April 12.  The written speech must have the following specifications:

  1. Should be three to five minutes in length
  2. Should be typed, double-spaced, with the writer’s name appearing on the top right hand corner
  3. Should emit a positive tone
  4. Can be retrospective or looking toward the future or a combination of the two
Need more info?  See your senior English teacher or Dr. Marchbank.

New Scholarship
A new scholarship has arrived in the Guidance Office. The Rotary Club of Cumberland Scholarship is available to any graduating senior form Mountain Ridge High School, as well as the other local high schools. You may pick up your application in the Guidance Office. Please return all completed materials to Mrs. Blank by no later than Friday, April 7. Relatives of Rotarians are not eligible.

James E. Clark, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Application packets for the James E. Clark, Jr. Memorial Scholarship are now available in the Guidance Office. Any interested senior athlete should complete the application and return it to Mrs. Blank by NO LATER than Friday, April 14. Please see Mrs. Blank for more information.

Mindy VanPelt Memorial Scholarship
The Mindy VanPelt Memorial Scholarship is now available in the main office. Any senior who has played a sport during his or her junior and senior years, has a 2.5 GPA or higher and is planning on attending a college or university may apply for this award. Applications may be picked up in the main office. Deadline is April 7th.
