Mountain Ridge Students Show
Support for Fellow Students

The student body, faculty and staff at Mountain Ridge High School traded their regular school colors of red, black, gold and white to wear orange on Friday, January 27, 2012, to show support for Katie and Taylor Llewellyn, two students at the school. Katie is fighting leukemia and has just gone through a bone marrow transplant.  Taylor was the donor for the transplant.  Both girls are outstanding student athletes who are an important part of our school community. The orange clad-group sends their best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to the two sisters.

Mountain Ridge to Hold Craft Fair

On March 24th from 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., Mountain Ridge High School will be sponsoring a one day Craft Fair in its gymnasium to benefit the Mountain Ridge High School Academic Endowment Fund.

Since the Craft Fair is a fundraiser for the Endowment Fund and is being held in the school, please bring appropriate items for the sale.

Vendors can call or stop by Mountain Ridge High School during school hours (8:00a.m.– 3:30p.m.) to purchase a space.

Parents Conference Day Scheduled for February 1st

Parents Conference Day will be held on February 1st, 2012 from 11:30 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Parents of middle and high school students may request a 10 minute conference appointment between 11:30 - 3:20 and between 4:30 - 6:50 through he ASPEN system by e-mailing the teacher directly beginning January 18, 2012 through January 30, 2012.
Walks-ins are welcome from 11:30-4:30 and from 4:40-6:50.Lunch will be scheduled in all school between 3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. No conferences will be held during the teacher's lunch break.

 

Fafsa Help For Parents

On February 1, during parent conference day financial aid counselors from Frostburg State University will be in Computer Lab 117 to help parents fill out their forms.  The time will be from 11:30-7:00.  Bring tax forms from 2010 filing or the year before if you have not filed.  This is for all parents filling out forms no matter where their student is going to school in the fall.  This is such a generous offer that I hope we have a good turn out.

January 26th
Girls Team:
Actual Match Play: MRe 28 Hampshire 8
Adjusted Match Play: MR 24 Hampshire 12

High Game’s: Mariah Snyder 179; Kyle Humbertson 173 and 510 – 3 game set; Alec Forwards bowled 44 pins over her Aug.

Boy’s Team:
Actual Match Play: MR 22 Hampshire 14
Adjusted Match Play: MR 20 Hampshire 16

High Game’s: Matthew Clark 205 - 3 games set 572; Danny Walch 195-214 - 3 games set 576

 

Coach Nightengale to be Honored at Dapper Dan Dinner

January 26th
Coach Nightengale from Mountain Ridge will be receiving an award for outstanding seasons along with Coach Milbourne from Northern and Coach Appel from Fort Hill. He is selected as one of the Pepsi Cola High School Soccer Coach of the Year. Nightengale is now 10-for-10 in coaching area championship teams. He has been head coach for 10 seasons, and every year his team has won the area championship – six from Beall High and four with Mountain Ridge. This year the team became the first in area history to win back-to-back state championships, beating Manchester Valley 4-1 in overtime penalty kicks. The Miners season finished 18-1 with a 17 game winning streak. Miners went unbeaten in the AMAC with a score of 8-0. Nightengale’s winning percent is 86.6% with a 10-year coaching record of 148-19-5.

Mountain Ridge Girls' Basketball Team Loses to Southern

January 25th
Mountain Ridge Girls’ Basketball Team lost to Southern High School on January 25, by a score of 76-51. Sarah Raines had 16 points, Carlie Lewis had 12, Shae Winner had 11, and Anna Broadwater had 10.

Mountain Ridge Girls J.V. Basketball Team defeated Southern by a score of 48-29. Amie Blank had 13 points and Kaite Blank had 12.

Miners Wrestling Team Defeats Keyser

January 24th
The wrestling team defeated Keyser by a score of 55-15 and improved to 24 and 2 on the season.  Individual winners were:  Cody Matthews, Jacob Taylor, JT Thomas, Garrett Clise, Adam Martz, Tyler Maynard, Mike Femi, Phil Shifflett, Jason Wight, and Shane Phillips. JV winners were:  Justin Bryant, Tyler Valentine, Joey Broadwater, and Tim Buskirk.

The Mountain Ridge Boys’ Basketball Team

January 24th
The Mountain Ridge Boys' Basketball Team lost to Hampshire Tuesday, January 24 by a score of 52-44.

Miners Wrestling Team Place 3rd In Catoctin Dual Tournament

January 23rd
The wrestling team went 7-2 in the 15 team Catoctin Dual Tournament and finished in 3rd place. Individual champions were Adam Martz, Jason Wright, and Shane Phillips. The team is now 23-2 and will wrestle tonight, January 24 at home against Keyser. Varsity matches will start at 7:30 and JV matches will begin at 7:00

Lady Miners Varsity Basketball Team Defeats Northern Huskies

January 23rd
Congratulations to the Lady Miners Varsity Basketball Team for their victory Monday, January 23 by a score of 55-45. Sarah Raines had a double-double with 17 points and 10 steals. Shae Winner also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Broadwater had 11 points.
