Student Council Elections
It’s time to select Student Council Officers for next year. All interested students (in grades 9-11) should see Ms. Griffith (room 133) for an application.

Mountain Ridge High School – Baccalaureate Service 2012 Sponsored by FCA and Area Churches
There will be a baccalaureate service on Sunday, May 20th, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre at Mountain Ridge High School. Any seniors who would like to perform a song, dance or any other talent they have, should contact Mr. Duncan by Wednesday, May 9th.
A special senior slide show will be presented during the service. We are asking seniors to bring in pictures from birth through this year that highlight the graduating students. Each person can bring in up to 5 pictures. The committee reserves the right to not include any pictures deemed inappropriate. These pictures need to be turned in to Mr. Duncan or the student’s English Teach by Wednesday, May 9th. AP Environmental Science Presents and Attempts to Initiate Pre-Fracking Baseline Water Quality Monitoring Program
Mountain Ridge's AP Environmental Science students have been working on disseminating accurate information regarding future positive and negative impacts of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in Western Maryland. They are also in a pilot phase for collecting baseline water quality pre-fracking. They hope to gain funding to continue their data collection into future years, increasing public understanding of fracking's actual impacts on local waters.

Regional Tournaments On The Way
The Boys' and Girls' track teams will be hosting the Region 1A West Track Meet tomorrow, May 18th, starting at 3:00 p.m. The baseball and softball teams both advanced to the Regional Championship Game tomorrow with their victories last evening. Also, the tennis team will be competing in the Regional Tournament tomorrow and Saturday. Listed below are the addresses for the sites for each event.

Miners Baseball Team Defeats Northern Huskies
May 16th
The Mountain Ridge Baseball Team defeated the Northern Huskies by a score of 7-3. The boy's have successfully made their way into the Maryland 1A West Region finals. Cody Malone and Josh Mills both lead homeruns. Dylan Redinger and Daniel Strietbeck pitched against the Huskies. The next game will be played on Friday, May 18 for the 1A West Region Championship. Lady Miners Defeats Allegany
May 16th
Outstanding defense and timely hitting led the lady Miners over Allegany 7-0. Carlie Lewis pitched another great game and hitting was led by Taylor Llewellyn. This was a great team effort. Outstanding Ladies!
School Board Revises Athletic
Participation Contract
With the start of the 2012 Fall Sports Season, the revised Athletic Participation Contract will be in effect. As stated in the contract, "Participation in athletics in Allegany County Public Schools is a privilege. The participant comprises much of the visible student leadership in our schools; therefore, the participant must accept the responsibility of projecting a positive image to younger students and the greater community as a representative of his/her school."
